It says that lucifer was the chief and most powerful angel that God created. So how did michael defeat an angel that was more powerful than him. Did God bless michael so he could defeat lucifer and his angels?

(YES); It IS True that God “gave powers” to Michael (the arch angel) to DEFEAT lucifer and his angels !
im sure God gave him the power to do so.
By the time the first war between the principalities raged, Lucifer was consumed with his pride. And don’t forget that the 1/3 who fell with him were also selfish hateful cowards. Hardly organized soldiering material.
Michael and his angels won the battle because they trusted God as one military unit.
Lucifer and the other demons lost because they found themselves in a situation where it became “everyone for himself” and trusted no one.
